Biography

Jones P. Byrd Jr. is a skilled and recognized defender in the criminal law arena. He has represented defendants in a broad array of felony and misdemeanor cases in both state and federal court, ranging from traffic violations, driver’s license suspensions and DWI to assault and battery, drug and firearm offenses, sex offenses, and murder/manslaughter.

Super Lawyers of North Carolina named Jones a Rising Star in Criminal Law from 2012-16, and a Super Lawyer from 2019-2021, and Business North Carolina listed him among its Legal Elite in Criminal Law in 2013, 2014, and 2021.

Jones is a member of North Carolina Advocates for Justice.  He has served as the President of the Forsyth County Bar, Chair of the Ethics and Grievance Committee of the Forsyth County Bar Association, and Section Chair of the Small Office Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.  He has spoken at Continuing Education seminars on various criminal law topics for Wake Forest University School of Law, North Carolina Advocates for Justice, North Carolina Bar Association, and Forsyth County Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and is licensed to practice at the federal level in the Middle, Eastern, and Western Districts of North Carolina.

Jones received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University in 1999 and his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2002.

His personal interests include running, biking, sports, music, and, above all, spending time with his family.
